1989 Donruss contains 660 cards. The front of these cards contain a player photo with the Donruss logo and year located at bottom top. The players name and position are located along the top border. The team logo is also found on the front of the card just below the players name along the top border. The border of these cards is multi-colored that fades from dark to light. The backs contain the typical player bio and stats and printed in black on orange.

The first 26 cards of the set are part of the Diamond Kings (DK) subset. Card number 27 is the Diamond King checklist card. Cards (28-47) are part of the Rated Rookie (RR) subset. These cards were issued in packs that contained puzzle pieces that make up a Warren Spahn puzzle and team logo sticker cards. Each regular player card can be found in 2 variations. The variation is the word Denotes or De-notes can be found on the back above the stats in the header line. Neither variation carries a premium.
