1887 N172 Old Judge Chicago Cubs checklist

The N172 Old Judge set was issued between 1887 and 1890 by the Goodwin and Co. tobacco company. These cards were included with Old Judge an Gypsy Queen cigarettes. There are more than 500 players from 40 different major and minor league teams included in this set. These cards measure nominally 1-7/16 x 2-1/2 (inches). With as many as 20 different poses for some players, this is easily the largest baseball set ever produced with the actual number of unique cards unknown. Some of these cards have dates, some don’t. Some have card numbers and some don't. Some cards have script and some have machine printed identification. These cards are black and white (Many are now toned Sepia or even pink) photographs pasted onto thick cardboard. The card backs are blank.
