 Hal Breeden of the Chicago Cubs

Hal  BreedenHal Breeden, first baseman from Georgia, was signed by the Milwaukee Braves as an amateur free agent in 1963. Hal Breeden was the younger brother of big league catcher Danny Breeden. Hal spent several years in the minor leagues with the Milwaukee Braves, gradually improving his game. He was traded by the then Atlanta Braves to the Chicago Cubs in 1970 for future Hall of Famer Hoyt Wilhelm. Hal made his major league debut with the Cubs in April of 1971. Hal played in only 23 games his first season in the big leagues, hitting ony .139. In April of 1972, Hal was traded by the Chicago Cubs to the Montreal Expos for Dan McGinn. Hal was a part time player with the Expos from 1972 through 1975. He had his best season in the big leagues in 1973 appearing in 105 games, hitting 15 Home runs with a .275 batting average. On July 13, 1973 Hal Breeden became only the second player to hit pinch homer runs in both games of a doubleheader. Hal final season in MLB came in 1975 when he appeared in only 24 games, hitting only .135. For his career, Hal played 5 seasons, hit 21 home runs and batted .243. From 1976 to 1978 Hal Breeden played for the Nippon Ham Fighters of Japan's Pacific League.
