Jay Baller was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 4th round of the 1979 amateur Draft. He made his major league debut pitching for the Phillies in September of 1982. Jay was a big right handed pitcher that never fully realized his potential. He spent a large portion of his career in the Minor Leagues. In 1982, he was traded from the Phillies to the Cubs. In 3 seasons with the Cubs, Jay saw the most action in the major leagues over his career. Jay appeared in 79 games for the Cubs, mainly in relief. Jay was released by the Cubs in 1988 and he spent the next few years trying to get back to the big leagues. Eventually his hard work paid off as he made it back to the majors with the Kansas City Royals in 1990. That stint was short lived as Jay appeared in only 3 games for the Royals before they released him in the fall. Jay made it back to the big leagues one more time in 1992, this time with his original team the Philadelphia Phillies. Jay appeared in 8 games for the Phillies in 1992. Jay played in the big leagues, on and off, for 6 seasons. He pitched in 94 games, had a 4-9 career record with a 5.24 ERA. |
