 Mike Bielecki was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first round (8th pick) of the 1979 amateur draft. He made his major league debut pitching for the Pirates in September of 1984. Mike pitched for the Pirates for 4 seasons becoming starter in 1986. In March of 1988, Mike was traded to the Chicago Cubs. Mike pitched in Chicago for 3 plus seasons and won a career high 18 games in 1989. Mike's final season in Chicago came in 1991. He was traded near the end of the 1991 season along with Damon Berryhill to the Atlanta Braves. Mike signed to play with the Cleveland Indians in 1992. During spring training with the Indians, Bielecki was invited to join Steve Olin, Tim Crews and Bob Ojeda on a fishing boat in spring of 1993, but declined. The subsequent crash of the boat killed Olin and Crews, and nearly killed Ojeda. Mike spent the next 4 seasons in Atlanta and California. At the end of the 1997 season, Mike Bielecki retired from the big leagues. During his career, Mike pitched in 347 games. He won 70, lost 73, saved 178 and had a 4.18 ERA. |
