 Mike Capel was born October 12, 1961 in Marshall, TX. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and was a member of the 1983 College World Series Champions with Roger Clemens. He was also a member of the 1982 USA Team that won a Bronze medal in the 1982 Amateur World Series. Mike was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 13th round of the 1983 amateur draft. Mike spent the majority of his professional baseball career pitching in the minor leagues. He made his major league debut with the Cubs in May of 1988. He appeared in 22 games his rookie season, winning 2, loosing 1 and posting a 4.91 ERA. Mike was granted free agency in October of 1989 and he signed with the Milwaukee Brewers. Mike appeared in 2 games for the Brewers before being sent back to the minor leagues. In October of 1990, the Brewers released Mike Capel. He signed with the Houston Astros in January 1991. Mike appeared in 25 games for the Astros in 1991, winning 1 game, loosing 3 and posting very respectable 3.03 ERA. 1991 was the last season Mike spent in the major leagues. In 3 short seasons in the majors, Mike appeared in 49 games, recording 3 saves, 3 wins, 4 losses and a 4.62 ERA. Mike pitched 2 more seasons in the minor leagues before retiring for good in 1993. In 11 seasons in the minor leagues, Mike won 40 games, lost 64 and saved 44. He also had a 3.99 ERA. |
