 Ronald Thomas Campbell was born April 5,1940 in Chattanooga, TN. He attended Tennessee Wesleyan College and was signed by the Chicago Cubs as an amateur free agent in 1960. Ron spent most of his baseball career in the minor leagues. He played with Morristown in 1960, St. Cloud in 1961, Wenatchee in 1962 and Amarillo in 1963. He finally made his big league debut in September of 1964 as an infielder for the Cubs. Ron appeared in 52 big league games from 1964 through 1966. He had 154 at bats, 38 hits 14 RBIs and 1 HR. He posted a .247 batting average with a .950 fielding percentage. Ron was played in the Cubs AAA minor league affiliate from 1964 through 1968 with stops in Salt Lake City and Tacoma, Washington. He played with the National Leagues Pittsburgh Pirates AAA affiliate in 1969 and 1970 before retiring from baseball. Ron Campbell played 11 seasons in the minor leagues posting a .269 batting average and a .942 fielding percentage. |
