 Steve Boros of the Chicago Cubs

Steve  BorosSteve Boros signed a bonus contract with the Detroit Tigers in 1957. He was named the most valuable player of the Class AAA American Association in 1960 after he tied for the lead in runs batted in with 119. Boros has his best season in his first full MLB season, 1961, Boros played in 116 games for the Tigers as a third baseman and hit .270 with 62 RBIs. In 1962, Boros slugged three home runs in one game on August 6, but his average fell to .228 and he was traded to the Chicago Cubs in an off-season. After one season in Chicago, he finished his major league playing career with the Cincinnati Reds playing 2 seasons, 1964 and 1965. Boros had a career .245 batting average with 26 home runs and 149 RBIs. Boros continued to play at the AAA level through 1969. After his playing days he went into coaching. His managing career began in the Kansas City Royals farm system in 1970. He coached on the staff of Whitey Herzog in Kansas City (1975-79). He then was a coach with the Montreal Expos (1981-82) before taking over the A's. Boros led the As in 1983 and 1984, finishing 4th in the AL West both seasons. He also managed the San Diego Padres to a 74-88 record and 4th place finish in the 1986 season. Boros won 168 games and lost 200 as a manager for 3 seasons.
