 Tommy Brown, infielder from Brooklyn, NY was signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers as an amateur free agent in 1944. Tommy made his major league debut playing shortstop for the Dodgers in August of that same year. Tommy Brown became the youngest player ever to hit a home run in the Major Leagues when he homered on August 20, 1945 at the age of 17. Tommy played only sparingly for the Dodgers over the next few seasons averaging about 50 games a season. Tommy was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies for Dick Whitman in 1951. After a season in PHilly, Tommy was traded to the Chicago Cubs in 1952. Tommy played only a season and a half with the Cubs before his big league career was over. Tommy played 9 seasons in the big leagues, hitting .241 for his career with 31 round trippers. Tommy played in the Pacific Coast League for a few more seasons before retiring from baseball for good in 1959 playing for the Nashville Sounds. After baseball, Tommy stayed in Nashville and worked at the Ford glass plant for the next 35 years. |
